OATES AT SUNSET MARQUIS |
|
John Oates (Right) and Jed Leiber used Rocket
Network audio collaboration software while working on
Oates’ new solo album, titled Phunk Shui. The
project was recorded in three different studios across
the country with the majority of the work done at
Leiber’s The Studio located at the Sunset Marquis Hotel
and Villas in Los Angeles. |
GETTING IT WRIGHT AT GLENWOOD: Burbank’s Glenwood Place Studios was recently home
to famed rock producer and engineer Toby Wright. Wright
created the 5.1 surround mixes for the upcoming Phish
guitarist Trey Anastasio DVD-audio release on Elektra
Records. Elektra hired Wright as part of his association with
Mixlab –– a company specializing in surround mixing. The mixes
were done in Glenwood’s Euphonix room that features the System
5-M all-digital console. Wright previously mixed the stereo
version of Anastasio’s self-titled solo album.
SMOOTH SAILING AT SKIP’S: The upgrades just keep
coming at Skip Saylor Recording, where two SSL rooms are now
on line at the new Saylor/Devonshire in North Hollywood.
Recent clients working in the all-purpose Studio 3 have
included British popsters A-1, Lindsey Troy, Queen
Latifah and Dreamworks’ budding diva Mowett. Down
the hall, Devonshire’s Studio 1 has been jumping with
production team “The Underdogs” (Harvey Mason Jr.
and Damon Thomas) and engineer Dave Russell.
Underdogs projects have included a Jive Records solo project
for ‘N Sync’s Justin Timberlake, as well as
tracks for J Records’ exciting new artist Tyrese, and
MTV’s O-Town.
Back in Hollywood at Saylor’s original Larchmont location,
new lounges, a garden patio and additional parking have been
added. Saylor/Larchmont’s Studio A and its SSL 9080J-series
console have been booked solid on mixes for Toni Braxton,
K-Ci & JoJo, (hed) p.e., as well as Dutch band
Green Lizard.
Meanwhile the renovation of Larchmont’s Studio B is
complete. Besides two private lounges, a game room and a full
complement of outboard gear, Studio B now features an
impressive 64-input SSL G+ series desk along with an 8-channel
Neve sidecar with 1073 modules. For additional information,
